The Movie:

Radical scientist Victor Frankenstein (James McAvoy) and his equally brilliant protégé Igor Strausman (Daniel Radcliffe) share a noble vision of aiding humanity through their groundbreaking research into immortality. But Victor’s experiments go too far, and his obsession has horrifying consequences. Only Igor can bring his friend back from the brink of madness and save him from his monstrous creation.

I will start off by saying that there will be no iteration of these classic monster stories will make everyone content. There will always be people that won’t be happy about it and with that being said this wasn’t my favorite version of these characters. That’s not saying that the movie wasn’t entertaining though. There was just something about the directing style that just didn’t hit with me like I thought it would. I liked the different take on the Igor character and how they explained that he really wasn’t a hunchback. It was little things like that that were spread out through the film that made the film feel unique. There were also some subplots thrown in there that I actually didn’t mind. Normally I roll my eyes at things like that but they were enjoyable for the most part. The actual Frankenstein monster was really cool looking and a nice take on the character that everyone knows. They made the monster look like a powerhouse and that whole ending sequence was really fun to see. As far as performances go McAvoy and Radcliffe were both great but I feel like Radcliffe did get a role that was a bit more interesting as far as character development goes. This film will not be for everyone but it is a fun take on the Frankenstein story that you should check out if you’re looking for a movie to watch on a Saturday night. 7/10

Special Features:

The Making of Victor Frankenstein – Seven features that make up a behind the scenes look at the film and includes interviews and film clips.

Deleted Scenes – About 15 minutes worth of scenes that are actually kind of interesting to watch and I think a bit of them probably shouldn’t have been cut.
