The Movie:

A stream of police cars chasing after a deranged ice cream truck driver has captivated the attention of the greater Los Angeles area. Dozens of teens flock to the streets with their video cameras and cell phones, hell-bent on capturing the next viral video. But there is something far more sinister occurring in the streets of L.A. As they’ll soon find out, these fame-obsessed amateur videographers, capturing salacious footage for the amusement of the public, are themselves the stars of the next big viral video – one where they face their own horrifying deaths.

The VHS franchise has been truly a favorite of mine since it debuted. It brought back the long forgotten “Horror Anthology” and gave unknown and underrated directors a chance at being creative. This third entry starts off a bit strange though. It separates itself from the found footage aspect and it just presents itself as a regularly filmed segment. That’s not to say that it wasn’t entertaining I was just thrown off a bit by it. The rest of the film played out like the previous sequels with the wraparound story being about viral videos instead of being about a VHS tape. My favorite segment out of the bunch had to be about the parallel dimension. It had just right amount of weird in it and the concept was pretty creepy. Although the film itself was pretty good I still think that it may be the weakest out of all three films. In my opinion it was the wraparound that caused this. I would’ve much preferred them to bring it back around to the first film if in fact this is the final VHS film. This movie was really fun as is the others and I’m so glad that we have a new generation of anthology films which is something we have been missing for a while so of course I will recommend checking this one out as well as the other two films as well. 7/10
