The Movie:

A bank robbery is just the tip of the iceberg when two cops in Atlanta begin suspecting that members of their own team are involved. Not knowing whom to trust and how deep the corruption goes, the clock is ticking as they try to uncover the truth — before they become the target for the next deadly job.

With an all star cast like this you would think that this would be a fantastic movie with phenomenal performances and action……and you would be right. It’s been a good while since I’ve seen a really awesome heist movie and this film definitely scratched that itch that I had for one. The last time I experienced a really good one was watching The Town. It’s kind of similar in certain aspects to The Town as far the robbery plan and things of that nature but Triple 9 had a lot of really cool twists that made it quite unique. As I said before, the cast gave some really phenomenal performances but the two people that stood out to me were Casey Affleck and Chiwetel Ejiofor. For Affleck, he played the typical good cop thrown into a group of really bad cops and usually that would kind of bury a character but he is so commanding on screen that he takes his place front and center of every scene that he’s in. Ejiofor was a powerhouse and was able to take a character of a dirty cop and make me actually feel bad for him towards the end. I won’t spoil anything but it does make you really think about his actions in the film and how nothing is clearly black or white but an overall gray area. The film is the perfect blend of action, suspense and drama all rolled into one tightly streamlined package and it doesn’t stray from that one bit. So if you’re looking for something that will keep you at the edge of your seat trying to guess the outcome then you have to pick this up. 8/10

Special Features:

Deleted Scenes – There are 4 scenes that are included that are actually pretty good and could’ve easily been cut back into the film. I really enjoyed checking them out.

Under the Gun – A look at the film as a whole. We get a look at the cast, performances and story twists with a 2 1/2 minute feature.

An Authentic World – This feature focuses on director John Hillcoat and the work that he put into the film.

Triple 9 is available NOW on Blu-ray and DVD from Universal Studios Home Entertainment
