The Movie:

Humans and TRANSFORMERS are at war, OPTIMUS PRIME is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of TRANSFORMERS on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); BUMBLEBEE; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock). There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference.

I’m not the biggest Transformers movie fan and to be honest after seeing this movie the first time I didn’t like it. As with most movies that I don’t automatically like I tend to rewatch it to figure out if maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for it at the moment. Upon a second watch I told myself to just watch it for what it was and surprisingly I enjoyed it a bit more. It’s a big summer blockbuster type of film with explosions every few minutes and it doesn’t try to hide that fact. That’s something that I can at least respect. This is definitely going to be a movie that audiences either love or hate because of the franchise that it is. It’s action packed and full of some fan favorite Autobots/Decepticons but I do feel like it was a bit too cluttered. There was too much going on and the run time was too long but on the plus side it certainly furthered the narrative that they have been building up to so far. It’s unfortunate that with this being the fifth installment it’s not considered a better movie than any of the other sequels but if you just enjoy it for what it is and don’t nitpick every single thing then you will get an enjoyable viewing. I’m just crossing my fingers that if they do decide to continue the franchise they start trying to learn from their mistakes. 6/10

4K Presentation:

I thought the film looked really nice in this format and with this being a big budget action movie it was probably expected. All colors looked nice and vibrant and the clarity throughout scenes made this film look pretty fantastic. The detail in the human characters faces were superb and among all the smoke and destruction (which looked awesomely real) you could really see the detail in every person’s face down to the pores. A nice presentation of  an otherwise okay movie.

Special Features:

Merging Mythologies – This feature looks at how they were able to mix together aspects from King Arthur as well as WWII.

The Royal Treatment: Transformers in the UK – An interesting feature that focuses on shooting locations as well as the crew having to be careful in certain areas as to not disturb various artifacts or environments.

Motors and Magic – This is more of a character piece that focuses on a lot of the Transformers in the film.

Alien Landscape: Cybertron – A look at the role the new antagonist plays in the film as well as the planet Cybertron.
