The Movie:

In 1952, a massive winter storm strikes off the coast of Cape Cod, ripping a T-2 oil tanker in half and trapping more than 30 sailors inside its rapidly sinking stern. When word of the disaster reaches the U.S. Coast Guard, four men led by Captain Bernie Webber (Chris Pine) set out in a 12-seat boat on a daring mission to rescue the stranded men, braving freezing cold, 60-foot waves and hurricane-force winds, and guided by Webber’s vow that “We all live, or we all die.”

Disney has been knocking it out of the park with their dramas so there had to be a little bit of pressure to get this one right too. Well they can rest easy because this film was fantastic! There’s a bit of set up but not too much to the point of boredom. Everything after that is action packed and the impressive part is that they were able to keep the momentum going all while switching back and forth between 3 groups of people. There was the group back on land, the rescue crew and the crew that needed to be rescued and it was all put together seamlessly. The film is set in the 1950’s but could easily work in any decade given the type of rescue mission and it does a great job at pulling you into the experience. There is a phenomenal cast involved in the film that blew me away. Although I thought Pine was really great, I appreciated the performance of Casey Affleck a bit more. I thought he was the anchor of the film and even though his character was a little apprehensive due to the severity of the situation the crew was in, he definitely had my attention throughout the story. If you’re looking for a really good film that the whole family will enjoy then there’s no doubt…..PICK THIS UP! 8/10
