The Movie:
Now that Dom (Vin Diesel), and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) are married, Brian and Mia have retired from the game, and the rest of the crew has been exonerated, the globetrotting team seems to have found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman (Charlize Theron) lures Dom back into the world of crime and convinces him to betray those closest to him, the crew faces new trials that will test them as never before.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, these movies are total guilty pleasures of mine. They went from racing movies to straight up “in your face” action movies. This film takes what we’ve seen in the previous films and punches it up a few more notches. That’s a good thing for action buffs but it’s also somewhat of a bad thing. These movies started to get a bit ridiculous around Fast & Furious (the fourth one) but this one takes it to a point where if you aren’t the type of moviegoer to suspend belief then you’ll find yourself nitpicking and rolling your eyes every couple of minutes. It gets pretty wacky but pretty cool at the same time. Probably my favorite moment was the “zombie car” scene that was totally insane BUT it was very impressive to watch. The plot was something that I really enjoyed as well and I liked the way that they manage to push the franchise further and still keep me engaged and wanting to see how everything played out. If you’re a fan and have been following the franchise then you’re definitely going to like this film but if you’re coming in fresh then it’ll probably be 50/50 for you. Let’s be real though…who hasn’t seen a Fast & Furious movie? 8/10
4K Presentation:
The Fate Of The Furious looks fantastic in this format as it should with big action movies like this. You can see the shine of the paint job on each car and the texture of the actors skin during closeups. Colors look crisp and vibrant and with a movie that takes place in various locations something like that is very much appreciated. The black levels look great as well. The first part of the movie takes place in very dark areas but nothing is lost in those scenes thanks to HDR.
Special Features:
The Cuban Spirit – This feature looks at the fact that this film was the first major film to be shot in Cuba in decades. A very interesting watch.
In the Family – A four part feature give you a look at the family as a whole and what kind of challenges take place when they are left without a leader.
Car Culture – This three part feature showcases the vehicles in the movie including the Zombie Car moment which was my favorite.
All About the Stunts – Kind of self explanatory but this three part feature looks at the major stunts of the movie.
