The Movie:

For Sergeant Adam Schumann (Miles Teller) and many soldiers like him the process of leaving combat back in Iraq was as seemingly simple as getting on that plane. But standing on the tarmac again in the arms of loved ones would turn out to be merely a first step in the long and exacting journey of returning home and readjusting, all while facing new physical, mental, and emotional battles.

I knew right from the start that this was going to be a tough movie to watch and it definitely was. It’s especially hard if you have or know someone in the military. I thought the story of these men coming home and trying to fit back into normal life felt extremely real and heartbreaking. Seeing the narrative play out was truly an eye opener and watching it had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. You never knew if the core characters were going to “cross the line” or not. The whole cast was amazing and so believable in their roles. I felt captivated by the story that was being told to the point that I honestly felt like I was peeking into their lives. I did however feel like Teller was the glue that held everything together and his character was the backbone of the story. It’s a powerful and very truthful movie so be ready for that if you decide to pick this one up. It’ll be one that will stay with you for a while after watching it. 8/10
