Supercop: Blu-ray Review
The Movie:
A Hong Kong police officer, Ka Kui (Jackie Chan) is sent undercover to mainland China to break up a drug smuggling ring. After breaking the brother of the drug lord out of prison, he and Inspector Jessica Yang (Michelle Yeoh) are taken to Hong Kong to work for the syndicate.
Jackie Chan has been one of my favorite martial art actors for a very long time. There’s something about his fighting style that’s utterly entertaining and beautiful. You can very easily watch this film and find yourself hypnotized by the non-stop action and fight scenes. This movie has a great undercover story that is nail biting as well very comedic. The line between action and comedy can be pretty thin to walk across but Supercop is not afraid to blur that line and give some great comedic performances on top of great fight choreography. Chan is famous for being very “hands on” when it comes to the fight scenes and you can tell that there was no exception this time around. You can see it first hand in the bloopers and outtakes at the end just how involved him and everyone else was. From people sliding off of moving cars to Chan himself getting sideswiped by an actual helicopter, the cast and crew put everything they had into this feature and then some. Yeoh is also so great in the film. She proves that women can go just as hard as a guy can with the action sequences. It was just very cool to see her towards the beginning of her career and think about what she’s done since then. Is it the best film in the world? Probably not but it’s so much fun to watch with a storyline that you can easily follow and that makes this the perfect “non-thinking” action movie that you thrown on and enjoy with a price tag that won’t leave you completely broke.
