The Movie:

After the king of Norvania is assassinated, the legendary Scorpion King Mathayus is framed for the crime and must fight off an entire kingdom of soldiers. Now Mathayus (Victor Webster) and his only remaining allies, a mysterious woman and her unconventional father, are the last hope to stop the evil heir to the throne on his quest for an ancient and almighty mystical power.

I can appreciate a good period piece type of action film but there aren’t many out there that deserve sequels. Sadly The Scorpion King falls in that category. In this fourth entry of the franchise it basically starts out the way you would think. Mathayus gets caught up in a situation and has to stop the bad guy. Typical action movie formula except this doesn’t really feel like a movie at all. Between the subpar acting and the fairly decent CG effects (they aren’t horrible but not impressive either) what we end up with is what feels like an extended episode of “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys“. The idea of a Scorpion King show isn’t exactly a bad one and might actually be what this franchise could use at this point. The story wasn’t really bad but it was the execution that hurt it for the most part. There are some entertaining moments that mainly come from some of the action scenes. Unfortunately that’s the only place where this movie excels so unless you’re a fan of cheesy action movies (there are people out there that like that kind of thing) I would probably suggest skipping it……or at least Redbox it if anything.

Special Features:

Deleted Scenes – There are about 15 minutes of scenes her that they probably should’ve just left in. Not too bad.

The Making Of: Real Fighters, Fake Punches – This feature takes a look at the toughness of some of the actors and the way they had to adjust to stunt work.

Gag Reel – Scene flubs and miscues some of which are actually pretty funny

The Making Of: A Brand New World / Great Chemistry – A feature that shows the good time that the cast and crew had making the film.
