The Movie:

Tensions rise between lifelong friends Mitchell and Carter after their truck breaks down on an isolated desert road as they start to attack each other’s life decisions with unwavering brutality.

I love it when movies come along that exceed your expectations and leave you completely taken aback by it all. Scenic Route did just that and then some! Think about it, you’re in the middle of nowhere and your truck breaks down with no sign of life nearby. That scenario right there freaks me out and it was the perfect building block to establish this whole film. I can honestly say that it had me on the edge of my seat the whole time hoping they would get saved. Josh Duhamel and Dan Fogler each put in fantastic performances. You could feel their frustration and desperation throughout the film but I felt like Duhamel really gave the performance of his career. I don’t think I’ve ever quite seen him like this before. He was so panic stricken by the final act of the film that you couldn’t help but to put yourself in his shoes. I think the biggest impression that Duhamel left was the way his character started going delirious after being out in the desert for so long. It truly was a riveting piece of work that surprised the hell out of me. And don’t think I’ve forgotten about Fogler. Usually I’m used to seeing him as the comic relief of a film and although he threw in some comedy here and there, I felt he too gave the performance of his career. When both characters got into a fight in the film you see this huge change in Fogler’s eyes that looked insanely creepy. It was basically the look of downright hate mixed with survival and that right there is a dangerous combination. The ending is one that gave me a bunch of mixed emotions and was very fitting for this film. It made you feel hope, sadness, anger, and frustration all at once. It was almost as if I was feeling what the characters had been going through the whole way. This was an excellent film and I applaud Kevin Goetz and Michael Goetz for creating it and leaving quite an impression on me. Do yourself a favor and see this as soon as you get a chance!
