The Movie:

Jack is a spirited five-year-old who is looked after by his loving and devoted Ma. Like any good mother, Ma dedicates herself to keeping Jack happy and safe, nurturing him with warmth and love and doing typical things like playing games and telling stories. However, they are trapped in a windowless, 11-by-11-foot space, which Ma has euphemistically named ”Room.” As Jack’s curiosity about their situation grows, and Ma’s resilience reaches its breaking point, they enact a risky plan to escape, ultimately bringing them face-to-face with what may turn out to be the scariest thing yet: the real world.

I’ve seen plenty of films that are emotional and moving but none that have gotten a reaction out of me like this story did. We’ve all seen the news reports and heard the stories of this happening to numerous people over the years but it’s different to see it play out on screen in front of you. The film sent me on an emotional roller coaster that had me strapped in didn’t want to let me off and after it was all said and done I couldn’t help but want to hold my family close. It was heartbreaking, terrifying, hopeful and suspenseful the entire way which kept you glued to your seat. There was one moment in particular that literally had my heart pumping and had my hands shaking. I freaked out for a moment because I couldn’t remember when was the last time that a movie had caused that sort of reaction from me. All of it comes from the performances of Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay. They both gave their all and lost themselves in the roles but the MVP award definitely goes to Tremblay. He truly gave a stellar performance that would rival any adult actor easily and he was the one part of the film that I couldn’t stop talking about after it was all over. I was completely blown away by his work and look forward to what he will be doing in the future. Go out, pick this film up and watch it as soon as you can. It’s definitely worth the time and money and will not disappoint one bit. 10/10
