Paranoia: Blu-ray Review
The Movie:
The high stakes thriller Paranoia takes us deep behind the scenes of global success to a deadly world of greed and deception. The two most powerful tech billionaires in the world (Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman) are bitter rivals with a complicated past who will stop at nothing to destroy each other. A young superstar (Liam Hemsworth), seduced by unlimited wealth and power falls between them, and becomes trapped in the middle of the twists and turns of their life-and-death game of corporate espionage. By the time he realizes his life is in danger, he is in far too deep and knows far too much for them to let him walk away.
In this day and age the competition between tech organizations and tech leaders is very real and this film brings it to the forefront in a way that is so thrilling and fast paced that it will literally have you on the edge of your seat wondering what exactly is going to happen next. It doesn’t hurt that we have some of the best dramatic actors in Ford and Oldman to give this movie a bit more credibility. Their characters were essentially just mirrored versions of themselves as they both were cutthroat and willing to do ANYTHING to have their business succeed. They both were so fantastic but I’m more of an Oldman guy. He has proven that he is such a great character actor and can play just about anything. He completely transforms himself and although there wasn’t a great deal of complexity with his character but I’m sure there was a bit of a mental transformation. Hemsworth has really started coming into his own in recent years and seemed to give veterans Ford and Oldman a run for their money. He’s more than just a one hit wonder and I can see him ultimately surpassing his brother as far as ability and grabbing roles that have a bit more substance. I’m usually used to seeing Amber Heard as the “eye candy” of a film. She is that in this film but her character also proves that she is strong and can hold her own among the guys of the film. I really dig films like this that have a little bit of everything rolled into one. It’s a tech thriller with a bit of action and tons of suspense. If you’re into that sort of thing then you should pick this one up.
