The Movie:

This comedy anthology collects a total of 14 different shorts directed by Elizabeth Banks, Steven Brill, Peter Farrelly, Steve Carr, Rusty Cundieff, James Duffy, Griffin Dunne, Patrik Forsberg, James Gunn, Bob Odenkirk, Brett Ratner, Will Graham, and Jonathan van Tulleken. With a jam packed film starring the likes of Halle Berry, Gerard Butler, Anna Faris, Hugh Jackman, Johnny Knoxville, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Richard Gere, Seann William Scott, Emma Stone, Kristen Bell, and Kate Winslet, you definitely won’t be able to unsee what you just saw.

This was an extremely surprising film to come across. With all the stars involved I had no idea what to expect and boy was I right. Movie 43 is one of those films that comes along every so often and after watching it you say to yourself “What the heck was that?”. The best thing about this anthology is that it doesn’t need to make any sense at all. It’s just so hilariously weird and I found myself cringing at some things but couldn’t look away. I think plenty of it had to do with the surprising characters that a lot of these stars portrayed. It showed that they weren’t afraid of playing something that wasn’t like them. Perfect example is Hugh Jackman. He’s a definite A-List star and his skit (which was the very first one) was so ridiculous but totally set the tone for what kind of movie you were about to watch. The Outrageous Edition of this blu-ray contains the theatrical version and an alternate cut of the film. The main difference between the two is the main story that weaves all the shorts together. The Theatrical version had a main story of a screenwriter pitching various story ideas to a film studio executive while the Alternate version shows two teenage boys sending their little brother on a wild goose chase looking for a fictional movie called Movie 43. This movie was so wrong on so many levels but I really liked it a lot. If you like gross out humor then you’ll dig it and the best part is that if there’s a skit that you don’t find entirely funny then you get many others within minutes. Even though the film wasn’t critically acclaimed I really do feel like this will eventually reach a cult status of sorts. If you need something to tickle your (degranged and demented) funny bone then by all means pick this up.

Special Features:

Deleted Short: Find Our Daughter – A short that just didn’t make the cut for the film. It’s not as funny as some of the others but it’s still fairly amusing.

Movie 43 is available NOW on Blu-ray from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment
