Season Overview:

The arrival of baby Marvin reminds Marshall () and Lily () of things they need, like sleep, better jobs and sex! Meanwhile Barney () uses his playbook to win over Robin (), but not her scary dad. Marshall tries to right a wrong in court in hopes of becoming a judge, and Robin’s past is judged. Ted () designs an amazing building, and also has designs on Barney’s half-sister! But does he meet his future wife?

The season picks up where the previous season leaves off. We see Ted and Barney at Barney’s wedding but the big question is: How does it get to this point? The show itself is linear to a certain point but each episode is a story in itself. Obviously the main plot point is how Ted meets the mother of his children but anyone that hasn’t seen the show can jump right in and enjoy the hilarity. During the previous seasons it had started to feel like Ted was beginning to be a secondary character and the others seemed to be taking center stage. This season seems to alleviate that and pushes Ted back into the front of the story. The comedy is better than ever and this group of actors have so much chemistry together. The jokes are extremely clever and multi-layered which makes the punchline that much funnier. It’s going to be really sad to see it end soon. Neil Patrick Harris has really proven himself to be the breakout star and has had the best ongoing jokes of the season. My favorite episode was “The Time Travelers” where future versions of Ted and Barney try to convince present day Ted and Barney to go (and not go) see Robots vs Wrestlers. It was so insanely silly that you couldn’t help but laugh. Then the end of the episode brought everything back to earth and you feel so bad for Ted. That’s the biggest thing about this show is that it gives you so many laughs but it also knows how to make you feel for the characters. Ted’s story has come a long way and a part of me says “It’s about time” but another part says “I don’t want this to end”. If you haven’t caught the show yet then now is a perfect time to go back and catch up.

Special Features:

Deleted Scenes – A decent group of scenes that I can honestly see why they were cut. Funny but would’ve slowed the pace down a bit.

The Making of “P.S. I Love You” – A hilarious look at the Robin Sparkles video

“P.S. I Love You” Music Video – The actual full Robin Sparkles music video

Where We Make Your Mother: Set Tour with Josh Radnor – A nice look at what goes into making the show which feels like a “Day in the life” feature.

Gag Reel – A very hilarious collection of flubs and missed cues.

How I Met Your Mother: The Complete Season 8 is available NOW on DVD from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment
