The Movie:

As the nation reels from a lethal virus that turns its victims into zombies, Wade’s (Arnold Schwarzenegger) daughter Maggie (Abigail Breslin) has been infected. Now, as Maggie’s condition worsens, Wade will stop at nothing to protect her from the authorities seeking to kill her to eradicate the virus.

If you name a zombie movie then chances are that I’ve seen it. Since this movie was originally announced I was interested in seeing as it seemed like a film that was fairly unique as far as casting goes. The film had this perfect feel to it that was very reminiscent of the video game The Last Of Us which I loved. This wasn’t the typical zombie movie though. The virus in this film takes over a person slowly and painfully basically causing them to rot in the process all while they are still “alive”. As I stated before, the most surprising thing was the casting and (I hate to say it) but with Schwarznegger’s name attached to it I figured it was going to be a cheesy horror/action film. Boy was I wrong. It was a great dramatic departure for the actor and showed that he can do something different every once in a while. You could really see the Father/Daughter dynamic play out in the midst of her being infected. Breslin shined so much in this film. Her take on someone becoming one of the undead was refreshing and with her performance you could tell the emotions were filling her head. This film managed to be grotesquely beautiful in a certain way because of the subject matter and the cinematography blending together. I absolutely loved this film and I feel like if Arnold throws in interesting films like this in with the usual action films then he may end up gaining a new audience and broadening his craft. 8/10
