Life After Beth: Blu-ray Review
The Movie:
Zach (Dane DeHaan) is devastated after his girlfriend Beth (Aubrey Plaza) dies unexpectedly. After Beth suddenly and mysteriously returns to life, Zach is overjoyed to have the second chance to prove his love for her. But when Beth starts developing some bizarre tendencies – including a rather disturbing taste for flesh – Zach has to confront the facts. Can love survive among the living dead?
I’m a lover of all things zombies. I’ve seen so many zombie movies over the years that I lost track of how many I’ve exactly seen (it’s a lot) so I knew that I had to see this. This is what you would call an unconventional type of zombie film. I’m what you might call a zombie purest. I feel like the undead should meet certain specifications to earn the “zombie” title. This film doesn’t meet those specs in particular BUT that doesn’t necessarily disqualify it from being a good movie. The zom-com has been seen more and more since Shaun Of The Dead and no one seemed to grab the same success as that film and although Shaun is a tough competitor, this film is pretty damn good. I’m just going to put it out there right now. The zombies talk. I’m not really a fan of that aspect but seeing as the film was entertaining then that’s something that could be looked over. I’m such a fan of Plaza and her dry/sarcastic humor but I think she has began to evolve her acting ability a bit and it shows in her performance here. There were some good moments with Plaza, many of them dealing with her being so unaware of what has happened to her and her being so weirdly and humorously aroused most of the time. DeHaan has proven to be a great actor and he shows that he’s versatile enough to do a comedy like this. His best scenes come in those moments when he reacts to Plaza and plays off of her characters’ situation. What good is a joke without the punchline right? Then of course there is the greatness that is Molly Shannon and John C. Reilly. There isn’t enough words to describe how good these two really are but in their supporting roles in the film they do exactly that…..they support this film so much and lead the comedy in this film along perfectly. This is a movie that horror fans will find entertaining and comedy fans will really dig. This is a must buy!

Deleted Scenes – Almost 20 minutes of scenes here that are actually pretty good but understandably would’ve slowed the film down.
