In The Name Of The King 3 – The Last Mission: Blu-ray Review
The Movie:
A modern-day assassin, wanting out, is hired for one final job – to kidnap the kids of a local businessman. Things go haywire when it turns out he’s chosen to return to the Middle Ages and bring back order to a kingdom in chaos.
I haven’t seen any of the previous films so I was going into this pretty much blindly. When you read what the film is about it’s basically right on the nose on what you would expect. A time travel, action flick. I’m going to be entirely honest here. I’m not a really a fan of Uwe Boll and his work but this actually wasn’t half bad. It wasn’t as campy as I anticipated it would be because of his previous work. There was one thing that was present from before and that was a lot of blood. There was plenty of it during the fight scenes but it was the right amount of it. The one thing that did lack a bit was on the actual visual effects. There was a dragon in the film that was designed great but when it would land on the floor it looked to slide a bit like it wasn’t exactly placed right and I felt like that caused it to take a little bit away from the film. Purcell isn’t a bad actor but I feel like he’s been typecast as a tough guy or brute type roles. It just kind of feels like he tends to portray the same type of character and with that caused some disconnect with me. I think if Purcell got a hold of a good non-action role then we could really see him shine. It’s not a pitch perfect film and the “Too Intense For Theaters” sticker on the front of the blu-ray is a stretch but I will say that this was much better than his other films so there’s that. If you don’t want to think and just have a passable action movie on then by all means rent this one. Like I always say “There’s always an audience for cheesy action films”.
