The Movie:

When innocent civilians begin committing unthinkable crimes across Metropolis, Gotham City and beyond, Batman must call upon mystical counterparts to eradicate this demonic threat to the planet. Enter Justice League Dark, reluctantly led by the Hellblazer himself, John Constantine. Like Batman, Constantine is a cunning, often cynical loner who is the best at his chosen profession – but quickly realizes the sinister forces plaguing the planet will require help from other supernatural alliances. Forming a new “league” with sorceress Zatanna, otherworldly Deadman, and Jason Blood and his powerful alter ego Etrigan the Demon, this team of Dark Arts specialists must unravel the mystery of Earth’s supernatural plague and contend with the rising, powerful villainous forces behind the siege – before it’s too late for all of mankind.

I didn’t realize that this feature was going to be Rated R. Not that it’s a bad thing or anything but so much fuss was made about The Killing Joke being Rated R that I figured I would’ve heard about it. The way this film starts out it definitely shows you that this is not your typical DC Animated Movie. It was pretty shocking but given the cast of characters in the film I think that kind of storytelling just made sense. I absolutely loved this cast of characters and seeing them all interact on screen together was amazingly cool to me. The one thing that I was kind of on the fence about was the fact that there were appearances from the Justice League. I understand that some people may not know who some of the JLD characters are but I would’ve preferred seeing that team establish themselves on their own. I thought that it was an fantastic decision to have Matt Ryan voice Constantine and even though I did love Keanu Reeves playing the character, I think Ryan has now made it his own and he’s all I picture when I see the character. Other than Constantine my favorite character of the movie was Deadman. He provided a lot of great and funny moments and I appreciated the fact that we got to see a condensed version of his origin. I really loved this movie a lot and I hope that this is the start of more JLD animated movies in the future. Would I recommend checking this out? Hell yes! 9/10
