The Movie:
Two salesmen whose careers have been torpedoed by the digital age find their way into a coveted internship at Google, where they must compete with a group of young, tech-savvy geniuses for a shot at employment.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson gracing the screen together and this one was getting people talking and comparing it to Wedding Crashers. There’s plenty of humor in the film but it’s no match for Wedding Crashers. I think a lot of it has to do with the audiences humor having evolved since their first tag team film. We’ve had plenty of different comedies come our way and change what people think is funny. The film does have some really funny moments though. You mix two older guys in with a group of tech savvy youngsters and hilarity ensues. It’s your typical fish out of water story but with lots of computers. My favorite part of the film was the hilarious Quidditch match that they had that was reminiscent of Dodgeball. Another really funny moment was where Wilson and Vaughn go on their inspirational rant that somehow involves Flashdance. So random…haha! Dylan O’Brien and Tobit Raphael were fantastic in this and I almost feel like they stole the show a bit. This was a really good opportunity for some of the younger actors to work with two great comedic actors and the way they played off of each other was perfect for the film. O’Brien has this way about him that makes him fit right in with Wilson and Vaughn so much. I see a bright future ahead for him and hope to see him in more stuff sooner rather than later. The one thing that was a bit strange to me was that the film itself almost felt like a Google advertisement. I get that that’s where the setting of the movie takes place and not that I have anything against Google, I just feel like the film shouldn’t have a product or company feature pushed in your face every five minutes. Sure, the film has its slight faults but it really is entertaining and will make you chuckle. If you’re looking for a few laughs then I suggest checking this one out.
Special Features:
Theatrical/Unrated Versions – There really isn’t too much difference besides some extended scenes that add about 5 minutes to the film.
Deleted Scenes – A good group of scenes that run a little over 8 minutes.
Any Given Monday – A funny feature on the making of the Quidditch match in the film.
