Game Review: The Wolf Among Us // E1 – Faith
Set prior to the events seen in the first issue of the FABLES comic book series, The Wolf Among Us puts players in the role of Bigby Wolf, a man once more infamously known as The Big Bad Wolf. Now the sheriff of Fabletown (a hidden community in New York City) ,exiled from the land of fairy tales, Bigby is tasked by the bureaucrat Snow White to keep order within a society of mythical creatures and characters trying to remain undetected in the world of the mundane. From a chain-smoking member of ‘The Three Little Pigs,’ to a car-stealing Mr. Toad itching for his next wild ride, The Wolf Among Us examines the lives of beings straight from the pages of myth and lore, now trying to survive on the meanest and most run-down streets of New York City.
When I heard about this being Telltale Games next episodic game I was intrigued. The first thing I did was stay away from any other information regarding the game or graphic novels. It looked so interesting that I wanted to be absolutely surprised and boy was I. Telltale Games has created another game that pulls you in almost immediately but obviously couldn’t have done it without some really fantastic source material. The damaged and twisted version of all the fables we know and love made the story really unique. The characters are fantastic and had me wondering who was going to show up next. Add the noir feel to it and it made for a game that I couldn’t put down. The controls are basically the same as before but it’s the gameplay that really has made a bit of a change and has improved greatly since The Walking Dead. The action in the game has the player a lot more involved than before and the button sequences during battle are a lot more fast paced and multi-layered. Telltale Games has proved that they are more than just a one trick pony and I see endless possibilities with the characters of Fabletown. I just can’t wait to see what comes next in this season and the story itself.
