Official Synopsis:

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes ( Jodie Foster), a hard line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Elysium is a heartfelt movie of the double standards and trials and tribulations of premium healthcare for the struggling poor and demoralized rich. Although there is a lot of robotics in the film, it is really about strength of the human will. How far and what someone is willing to do to save a life. The movie may feel very political at times but there is more than enough action and gorgeous visual effects to keep audiences entertained. The cast brings superb acting to the screen backed by a powerful touching story. Each of the characters does a great job in their roles from Matt Damon playing a “humble hero”, Jodie Foster as the “crooked politician”,  Sharlto Copley as the “anti hero/villain soldier who does the dirty work”, and Alice Braga as the “good samaritan and parent doing whatever it takes”. Elysium can be seen in the sky as a sign of hope and dreams. Something to aspire to. In the beginning of movie the nun reminds Matt Damon/Max to never forget where he came from. To remain humble. And in the end, his actions will come full circle and see what the nun meant. What it is to be humble. Something the rich obviously forgot.
