The Movie:

Recently divorced and laid off from his job, Elliot Baker (Joel Kinnaman) is desperate to spend more time bonding with his sons, Bradley (Tom Holland) and Caleb (Percy Hynes White). What starts as family day trip to teach his boys how to shoot turns into a nightmare when they become stranded. As they retreat to a desolate cabin, Elliot’s mounting fear of losing custody pushes him to the edge. The brothers quickly realize that the man responsible for keeping them safe has now become their biggest threat.
Recently I had vaguely seen a trailer to this film and it seemed decent enough so I wanted to check it out. When I finally got around to pop this movie in I was basically watching it blind which is sometimes my favorite thing to do. I’ve got to say…this movie took me by complete surprise and it was definitely not what I thought it was going to be. It was intense and had a lot of edge of your seat moments but the thing that got me the most was just the fact that someone could snap so easily and potentially endanger their children. It’s something that is a realistic kind of situation and things like that make films like this a heck of a lot scarier and creepy. Kinnaman really pulled this character off great and he was extremely believable. There was a look in his eyes that couldn’t have been achieved without being totally committed to the role. Holland and White both stole the show with their performances. They both had this great chemistry together and had the brotherly vibe down perfectly. It’s very easy to see why Holland was chosen as the next Spider-Man based on what I saw in this film and as for White, I see a great future for the young actor as well. If you’re looking for a good thriller to check out then this is a definite pick up! 7/10
