The Movie:

Three young thieves (Jane Levy, Dylan Minnette, Daniel Zovatto) fight for their lives after breaking into the home of a blind man (Stephen Lang) who has a dark side.

Director Fede Alvarez has already proven that he can create fantastic horror and heart pounding moments with his remake of Evil Dead but with this being an original story for him the pressure was on. Thankfully he took a premise that I hadn’t seen before and applied those same techniques and created a fantastic horror/thriller with non-stop tension. The entire film feels very claustrophobic because of it being so self contained but that’s really what makes it great. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time just waiting to see how the blind man was going to outsmart the kids. One thing that I will say about the movie was that for about the first half I felt one way about the blind man but throughout the second half my view on him completely flipped. I love it when a movie can change your outlook on the characters during the narrative and do it in a such a way that is surprising and crazy at the same time. Lang was such a fantastic antagonist in the film. He embodied his character so good to the point that every scene that he was in felt like he was a monstrous creature rather than just a blind man. Levy and Minnette were amazing in their roles and much like Lang they both flipped my outlook on their characters and had me rooting for them in the end. It’s been a good while since I’ve experienced a thriller that was such a nailbiter so it’s always a treat when one comes along. I definitely suggest picking this one up as soon as possible as this could also be a great film for a movie night. 8/10

Deleted Scenes – Eight scenes included with optional director commentary. I actually liked these but I did prefer the final product.

No Escape – This is basically a Behind The Scenes feature with the cast and crew talking about their experience in making the film.

Creating The Creepy House – A cool production design feature that shows how they created the house on a soundstage as well as getting a tour of the place.

Meet The Cast – A profile on the 3 main characters of the movie and they go into their reasons as to why they were doing what they were doing.

Man In The Dark – Stephen Lang talks about his character and just how creepy the blind man is.

The Sounds Of Horror – This feature discusses just how important the score to the film is and how it was created.

Commentary With Director Fede Alvarez, Co-Writer Rodo Sayagues and Actor Stephen Lang
