The Movie:

After a mysterious, lost night on their honeymoon, a newlywed couple finds themselves dealing with an earlier-than-planned pregnancy. While recording everything for posterity, the husband (Zach Gilford) begins to notice odd behavior in his wife (Allison Miller) that they initially write off to nerves, but, as the months pass, it becomes evident that the dark changes to her body and mind have a much more sinister origin.

With a premise that we’ve seen before a few times Devil’s Due gives us a found footage twist on it. The movie starts off pretty quick and gets it’s point across with no slow down which I liked. The one thing I’m not a fan of is found footage films that take 25 minutes to get the story rolling and in doing that we get lots of cheesy banter between characters that tries too hard to be “real”. Not to say that there wasn’t a bit of cheesy banter here but at least there wasn’t a whole lot of it. The usual found footage camera views and tricks were there so it hid some of the instances where you could see some visual effects but when we did see some there were actually not bad at all. Basically it was Rosemary’s Baby but with handheld cameras and let me just state the obvious…It’s no Rosemary’s Baby but it is entertaining and creepy at times. Gilford and Miller had good chemistry together and their interactions with each other felt mostly genuine especially in the finale but there was one moment that Miller had that made me squirm a bit. There was a moment in a supermarket where Miller’s character is staring at the meat department and proceeds to grab meat, open the package and starts to chow down on it. It was shown from a distance so it’s not like you could fully see the action happening but it was definitely the idea of it that made my stomach turn a bit. I’m not the hugest fan of this particular genre of film but like I’ve always said “There will always be an audience for genre films” and I know for sure that there’s going to be an audience for this one. I have to give it a 6 out of 10 because of its lack or originality but it’s definitely entertaining.

Special Features:

Deleted Scenes – A slew of scenes that total up to about almost 17 minutes.

Radio Silence: A Hell of a Team – A decent feature that profiles the team that were the creative force behind the film.

Ashes to Ash – A very quick piece of found footage.

The Lost Time – Another piece of footage that shows a couple of Spanish kids.

Roommate Alien Prank Goes Bad – A small short that hits 50/50 with me. It’s passable.

Mountain Devil Prank Fails Horribly – Pretty much same as above.
