Sara Taylor (Michelle Monaghan), a photojournalist blinded in Iraq, is forced to play a deadly game of cat and mouse with the sadistic criminal Hollander (Michael Keaton) – a man who will stop at nothing to get a fortune of stolen diamonds hidden in Sara’s penthouse apartment. Although Sara claims to not know where the diamonds are, Hollander utilizes psychological and physical torture in an effort to break Sara’s resistance. But Sara fights back. As the suspense builds to a shattering climax, Sara gains the advantage. But will it be enough to save her?

It’s interesting because initially I thought this would be a great film to check out to pass some time as well as the fact that I am a big Keaton fan. The film started off in a way that I couldn’t tell where it was going to go at all. Usually I’m pretty good at mapping out a plotline within the first 5 minutes but this one was a little hard to pinpoint. As the film continued along I was pleasantly surprised to see that it consisted of a story that I hadn’t really seen before. I thought Monaghan’s portrayal of a blind woman was a bit shaky at first but as soon as the film amped up so did her believability. Keaton is a powerhouse and I’ve always loved to see him as a antagonist in a film. Anyone remember Desperate Measures? Well his performance in this film was so good that he came off as pretty scary. The finale of the film was a great nailbiting scenario that had me glued to the screen until the credits rolled and left me kind of surprised at how it all ended. This is the perfect example of a film that didn’t seem like too much on the surface but when you start to get into it more it just became a great thriller. I definitely recommend picking this one up. 8/10
