The Movie:

Gary Faulkner (Nicolas Cage) is an ex-con, unemployed handyman, and modern day Don Quixote who receives a vision from God (Russell Brand) telling him to capture Osama Bin Laden. Armed with only a single sword purchased from a home-shopping network, Gary travels to Pakistan to complete his mission. While on his quest, Gary encounters old friends back home in Colorado, the new friends he makes in Pakistan, the enemies he makes at the CIA – and even God and Osama themselves.

The synopsis alone had me extremely curious about the film and the fact that Nicolas Cage was back in a more comedic role had me wanting to watch it even more. The story was an interesting one and had so many layers of ridiculousness thrown in but the really surprising thing was that it was actually true. I’m sure some things were exaggerated for entertainment purposes but for the most part it was true and that blew my mind. This is one role that I feel like Cage excelled at. He took the ball with eccentric character and totally ran with it which is really refreshing. Normally he plays these serious characters and ends up coming off goofy and in this case he plays a goofy character and comes off super entertaining. If I were Cage I would continue going down this route because it actually suits him better. The film wasn’t the best comedy that I’ve seen and in some ways some of the dialogue could’ve been written better but it was really fun and if there’s anybody out there that hasn’t been too happy with Cage’s action roles then I suggest checking this movie out. You might be pleasantly surprised. 6/10
