The Movie:

From the award-winning director of Senna, and featuring raw footage of Winehouse, this film is the best-performing box office biographical documentary to date this year, and features never-before-seen footage of the talented singer (including collaborations with her musical idol Tony Bennett and producer Mark Ronson) along with interviews with her closest friends and family, as well as previously unreleased music recordings.

Amy Winehouse came out of left field for me but as soon as I heard her voice I fell in love with her sound. I felt like she was a unique voice in a time that every musical act sounded the same. It was truly a terrible rollercoaster that she went down but her stamp that she left on the music industry will be forever embedded. This documentary shows her in her most happiest moments but also some of her saddest moments as well. It was great to see her as an up and comer that was so hungry but took no crap from anyone. The only thing that bothered me a little was that there were no on screen interviews at all and they all were mainly audio only with video clips cut together. I felt like it would feel even more intimate if they had the actual people they were talking to giving a video interview. The most heartbreaking moment of course was that of her death. Even though we all know this documentary ends it’s still just as hard to watch as when we all first heard the news. I’m just really glad they managed to gather all this footage together because after watching it all I feel like I got a better look at who Winehouse really was. I thought it was a great doc and very well edited with the footage that they had and I would easily recommend this to any Amy Winehouse fan. 8/10

Special Features:

Interviews with yasiin bey, Mark Ronson, Salaam Remi and Jools Holland – About an hour worth of interviews that are absent from the documentary.

Deleted Scenes – 3o minutes worth of more home/archival footage that didn’t make it into the film.

Unseen Performances – 3 songs (Rehab, Love Is A Losing Game, You Know I’m No Good) from a 2006 acoustic performance.

The Making of Amy – Feels more like a trailer than a “making of”.
